The Baltimore Ravens are coming off a 12-win season — the third time in franchise history with three consecutive double-digit win seasons — that ended in disappointment. The Ravens suffered a heartbreaking 27-25 loss to the Buffalo Bills the AFC divisional round.
This offseason, the Bills released Von Miller, who just three years ago signed a six-year, $120 million contract.
Miller is the NFL’s active leader in sacks with 129.5 in his career. Only 14 of those came in his three years in Buffalo, which were largely defined by injuries and snap-count limits.
Miller played just 33% of defensive snaps for the Bills over the past two seasons, and after failing to register a sack in 2023, he had something of a bounce-back in 2024, recording six sacks, with seven of his 17 tackles being for loss.
This week, Sports Illustrated’s Jarrett Bailey predicted three free agents the Ravens could sign, and Miller was among them.
“It’s been talked about plenty, but the Ravens and adding veteran defenders — specifically in the front seven — is something they are known for doing,” Bailey wrote. “You don’t want Miller as a three-down player at this stage of his career, but utilizing him like a closer in baseball in the biggest moments of the game could prove to be beneficial.”
If the team were to sign Miller, he’d be joining one of the NFL’s premier pass-rush units. The Ravens were second in the NFL in sacks with 54 last season.
Miller is a two-time Super Bowl champion, winning his first ring and taking home the Super Bowl MVP award with the Denver Broncos after the 2015 season. Six years later, he won the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams.
Kyle Van Noy led the charge for the Ravens with 12.5 sacks of his own, but heading into his age-34 season, it’s tough to predict a similar output, so adding veteran reinforcements makes sense.
The team’s other double-digit sack man, Odafe Oweh, is also a question mark to replicate his success. His previous career high was five sacks, which he doubled in 2024.
Miller could slide in nicely as a rotational edge rusher, joining a highly productive unit for the Ravens.
