BREAKING: Yankees Predicted to Sign Blue Jays’ All-Star to Blockbuster $147 Million Deal

The New York Yankees were unable to upgrade at third base this offseason. They are slated to platoon Oswaldo Cabrera and DJ LeMahieu at the hot corner when LeMahieu returns from injury. Both players struggled last season, and another down year at third base could force the Yankees to make a move.

The Yankees were rumored to be interested in Nolan Arenado, but obviously nothing materialized. Next offseason, shortstop Bo Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays will be a free agent. The Athletic’s Jim Bowden predicted the team would sign Bichette and make him their new third baseman.

“Bo Bichette signs a five-year, $147 million deal to play third base for the Yankees,” wrote Bowden.

Bichette struggled in 2024 but is hoping to bounce back in a contract year. His poor 2024 campaign seems to be an outlier. Last season, he slashed .225/.277/.322. However, he had a .306 average in 2023.

Bichette is a two-time All-Star and has led the American League in hits twice in his career. However, he has no big league experience at third base. Even in the minor leagues, he has only ever played at second base and shortstop.

However, making a switch in the infield is not uncommon, and Bichette should be able to handle it. The Yankees still have Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Anthony Volpe under contract for 2026, but Paul Goldschmidt will be a free agent after the season. If the Yankees sign Bichette, they could also make a run at a good friend of his, superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr., to round out their infield.

The Blue Jays tried to extend Guerrero this offseason but could not come to terms on a deal. Regardless of what the Yankees do at first base in 2026, bringing Bichette in to man the hot corner would upgrade their lineup.
