The Kansas City Royals will kick off their 2025 season at home on Thursday with an Opening Day matchup against the Cleveland Guardians at 4:10 p.m. ET.
The Royals head into the year to only improve on an already solid 2024 season, where they went 86-76, finished second in the AL Central, and were eventually eliminated in the ALDS by the New York Yankees.
There’s a lot of excitement around the team, and one prominent figure who’s ready for some baseball is Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who replied, “Let’s go!!!” to a social media post from the Royals showcasing photos of Kauffman Stadium on Thursday morning.
His personal connection to the Royals also goes much deeper than simply playing in the same city, though, because, in 2020, he actually became a member of the team’s new ownership group.
“I’m honored to become a part owner of the Kansas City Royals,” he said in a press release when the news was first announced. “I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do.”
The two-time MVP has also been surrounded by baseball his whole life, as his father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., enjoyed an 11-year career in the MLB, where he played for six different teams, mainly as a relief pitcher.
Mahomes himself also has his own ties with the MLB, as the Detroit Tigers selected him in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB draft, but of course, he never signed a contract.
