Dallas Cowboys COO Stephen Jones met with the media at the NFL annual league meetings in Florida on Sunday. Jones commented on the pace of the Micah Parsons negotiations. … and confirmed the exclusive reporting from a week ago from CowbiysCountry.com.
Jones said some guys like to come in and talk about money and some don’t. It appears from Jones’ tone, Micah just likes to talk about being a Cowboy.
“We’ve had visits with Micah, Jerry and I have, and feel good about that,” Jones said. “Some guys want to visit, some guys don’t want to visit about their money, and we respect both ways. If players want to come in and talk to us, we’ve got an open door policy, whether it’s Jerry or myself, and Micah likes to visit, so that’s a good thing.”
Our Mike Fisher has reported that in these “meaningful” talks, the Joneses have exchanged “contract proposal numbers.” (See below.)
“”We’ve done them early before and we’ve waited until the end to do them, a lot of it is just the negotiations itself,” Jones said. “Some of them take longer than others, we put about zero credence into people saying we wait too long.”
Lamb held out for a time in training camp last season before the contract negotiations were finished. He was in shape, but arguably not in football shape like he would have been in had he participated in OTA’s.
The former first-round pick out of Oklahoma in 2020 hit the ground running as a Cowboys’ rookie and hasn’t looked back since. The Cowboys are hoping to get Parsons deal done before OTA’s so he can work out with the team and stick around The Star before camp starts.
