The Los Angeles Lakers have been performing admirably in the West, sitting in fourth place on the table. They were on a six-game winning streak until they played against the Orlando Magic on Thursday Night.
The Magic surprised the home side as they came out victorious at the Crypto.com Arena by just one point, winning by 118-119. Lakers head coach JJ Redick was left disappointed with this loss.
LeBron James had an incredible fourth quarter and Anthony Davis had another incredible night, but the Lakers lost to the Magic because they struggled at the free-throw line in the closing minutes. Redick provided the media with a hilarious reaction regarding the loss, stating that he would go to a ‘very dark place’ after this loss.
With 39 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, and two assists, Davis maintained his dominance. In terms of scoring, he also moved up to 20th place in Lakers franchise history, surpassing Lamar Odom.
With 31 points on 5-8 shooting from outside the arc, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, James was on fire in the fourth quarter. However, this was not enough to see out a win against a hard-working Magic side.
The Magic’s spark in Paolo Banchero‘s absence, Franz Wagner, scored a spectacular triple to secure a significant victory away from home. He also dropped a whopping 37 points on the Lakers, showcasing his qualities against a top NBA side.
JJ Redick points at their ‘missed free throws’ as a reason for Lakers’ loss
The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a harsh defeat against the Orlando Magic on Thursday Night on home court. After leading the game throughout the 3 quarters, the 4th proved to be a back-and-forth one for both the sides.
In the process, the Lakers missed a few free throws which possibly led to their defeat. Lakers HC JJ Redick said the same regarding the missed free throws.
On the other hand, Moritz Wagner, a former Laker, was demonstrating his enhanced athleticism and talent by making two layups. On the attacking end, both teams were dominating, while on the defensive end, they were having trouble. Up next for the Lakers are the 2023 NBA champions the Denver Nuggets on home court.
