The Boston Red Sox 2025 MLB season is underway, and the organization is already impressed with all three of their top prospects.
However, 22-year-old Kristian Campbell, the No. 7 ranked prospect in MLB, was the only one to make the Opening Day roster, and he is already turning heads.
Boston’s front office determined that it would be best to have prospects Roman Anthony and infielder Marcelo Mayer start the season in Triple-A to work on a few things before getting called up.
According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, Campbell and the Red Sox are in deep talks of a contract extension, and reports came on the night that Campbell recorded his first big league home run. His agent also confirmed that the negotiations are in progress.
Campbell has had a quick and productive start to his rookie season. In just 10 at-bats through three games, he has five hits and drawn two walks.
It’s no surprise that Boston is in talks of a contract extension early in his career, as it’s apparent that Campbell is a piece of the future, and the front office wants to get him locked down as early as possible on a team-friendly contract.
It’s unclear when Campbell and the Red Sox may agree to terms on a new contract, but usually, with players 22 or younger, the contract is likely to be a five- to six-year contract worth up to $70 million, depending on how willing Boston is to spend.
However, what is very clear is that Campbell is a piece that the Red Sox want to keep for the season. After just three games of the season, extension talks are commencing.
