In a surprising revelation, Ben Roethlisberger opens up about a call he received to return from retirement and step in as a replacement for a Super Bowl champion quarterback.
Ben Roethlisberger is one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the Pittsburgh Steelers alongside Terry Bradshaw. The legend won the Super Bowl twice, but in the final stretch of his career, he was never close to a new championship.
In the last few years, there was speculation about whether Big Ben would consider coming out of retirement to play for a contender. At one point, several rumors suggested that the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers were interested.
Now, in a surprising revelation, Roethlisberger confirmed that he received a call not long ago asking if he was ready for an epic return to football to replace another NFL star.
Is Ben Roethlisberger coming out of retirement?
No. Ben Roethlisberger confirmed that he never considered coming out of retirement after playing 18 years for the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, the quarterback admitted on the Nateland Podcast that he did receive a call to replace Aaron Rodgers with the Jets in 2023.
“When guys go down, your agent will get a call. When Aaron got hurt in New York with his Achilles, my agent would be like: ‘Hey, any interest?’ I’m like: ‘Zero.’ I was watching the game when he went down and then sure enough I get a text like: ‘Hey, before I get these calls, any interest?’ I was like: ‘No. I’m golfing. I’m good.’ It happens all the time (agents getting calls).”
