The Pittsburgh Steelers had seen enough of former first-round pick Kenny Pickett by the end of the 2023 season.
After taking him No. 20 overall, Pickett made 25 appearances, including 24 starts in Pittsburgh. The team was not impressed with his 14-10 record and 62.5 completion percentage and 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
Pickett was shipped off to the Philadelphia Eagles as the Steelers completely turned over their entire quarterback room ahead of the 20245 campaign.
The former Pitt Panther rode the bench behind Jalen Hurts for the season and walked away with a Super Bowl ring.
Earlier this offseason, Pickett was traded to the Cleveland Browns, who believe he could be their future.
“Very excited about Kenny,” head coach Kevin Stefanski said at the annual league meeting on Monday, via Zac Jackson of TheAthletic.com. “We’ve had him up into our building and [liked] just the brief time talking to him, understanding what he knows about this game and how he’s been coached. I caught up with some of his former coaches in Philly and they filled me in on the type of person, type of player he is.
“So, excited for Kenny and the opportunity to see what he’s capable of. He’s got the right makeup for it.”
The 26-year-old started just one game for the Eagles last season but made five appearances and completed 60 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and one interception.
As Cleveland attempts to manage its way through the Deshaun Watson fiasco, it’s leaving no stone unturned in search of its next franchise quarterback.
The Browns have the No. 2 overall pick later this month in the NFL Draft.
