Yankees’ Rookie Hits a Missile, and Fan Reaction Is Out of This World

Jasson Domínguez goes yard and fans declare liftoff.

It took three games and almost three innings for New York Yankees top prospect Jasson Domínguez to remind everyone what they had been waiting for.

In the bottom of the third on Monday night, the 21-year-old outfielder turned on a Corbin Burnes fastball and drove it 377 feet to right field for his first home run of the season. It left the bat at 100 mph and cleared the wall with a flick more than a blast — quiet power, easy carry, full belief.

It was also off Burnes, the Diamondbacks’ ace and a former Cy Young winner. That mattered to fans.

“Off Burnes is such a good sign,” one fan posted on Twitter. “Could get used to this for the next 10+ years.”

Domínguez came into the season with the Yankees’ starting left field job his to lose. But even with the starting role, the Yankees have been careful. Through the first three games of the season, Domínguez was lifted late for defense in two of them, even with multi-run leads. In the other, he served as the designated hitter.

Not everyone is convinced. Dominguez’s defense has been shaky at times and since hitting four home runs in his first eight games in 2023, before being shut down for Tommy John surgery, the Yankees had not see the power return.

But Dominguez is just 22 years old and the Yankees believe he is still developing into a top player.

Fans have been waiting for a real “arrival” moment. Monday night might’ve been it.

“First of the year for him — I think he’s gonna have about 25 home runs,” one fan wrote. Another: “World Series back on.”

And, of course: “Martian landing.”

Not everyone was sold. One post called Yankee Stadium a “Mickey Mouse stadium.” Another threw in a dig about equipment: “Torpedo bat is cheating.”
