Red Sox 3, Orioles 0: A a great performance from Garrett Crochet and a much needed win

The Sox have their second win of the year.

Game two against the Baltimore Orioles and game six overall resulted in a shutout win, which the Red Sox badly needed and which was much appreciated by the fanbase. Garrett Crochet absolutely shoved on the mound, Trevor Story and Rafael Devers(!!) showed up at the plate, and it was a clean game of baseball. So much great stuff happened that I can’t even report on three duds! I can report on one however, along with our studs.

Three Studs:

  • Garret Crochet: What an absolute performance by our newly-extended ace. Eight innings four hits, one walk, no runs, and eight strikeouts, on over 100 pitches, all against a juggernaut offense. Credit to our defense for performing well behind him too, notably with a great double-play in the bottom of the eighth when Crochet could’ve easily been gassed.

  • Trevor Story: He slugged his first home run of the season and went 3-4 with his homer and two singles. All great to see for a guy whose defense is touted much more than his offense these days.

  • Rafael Devers: HE DID IT GUYS HE GOT TWO HITS AND AN RBI!!! It was a joy to witness Raffy finally break out of his rut, especially at Camden Yards, a park he’s known to hit well in. No strikeouts for Raffy today either!

Honorable Mentions: Kristian Campbell (also freshly extended) for hitting doubles, Ceddane Rafaela with his RBI single, and Aroldis Chapman for pitching a (mostly) clean bottom of the ninth and closing the game.

One Dud:

  • Jarren Duran: 0-5 with 2 Ks, and grounded into a double-play when we had the bases loaded in the top of the eighth.

Honorable Mentions: Wilyer Abreu and Connor Wong went hitless, but they both each walked once. Everyone else got at least one hit.

Play of the Game:

Crochet’s 8th Strikeout

Here are all of Crochet’s strikeouts. He even got a strikeout when he hit Cedric Mullins because the third base ump said Mullins swung. That’s a PIG right there.

Nice to finally be back in the win column, and now we can hope for a series win with tomorrow’s game.
