Dolphins Add Two Starters in Latest ESPN Two-Round NFL Mock Draft

The Miami Dolphins have focused on quantity over quality this offseason, handing out short-term contracts to a dozen outside free agents. As a result, general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel have their work cut out for them in filling out this roster.

If the Dolphins aim to compete in the loaded AFC next season, they will need to draft multiple immediate contributors in the 2025 NFL Draft. Currently, they still help at cornerback, safety, offensive line, and defensive line.

In his latest NFL mock draft, ESPN’s Field Yates projects the Dolphins to draft two probable starters at cornerback and offensive guard.

Yates has Miami drafting Michigan cornerback Will Johnson in the First Round (No. 13 Overall). He notes, “There is a big hole at CB2 in Miami opposite Jalen Ramsey, with Storm Duck and Cam Smith currently listed as options to start.”

Arizona Wildcats offensive lineman Jonah Savaiinaea (71) blocks in the second quarter against the TCU Horned Frogs at Amon G. Carter Stadium.

Yates adds, “Johnson has strong ball skills (nine career interceptions, including two pick-sixes in just six games last season) to pair with his great 6-foot-2 size. While there are some questions about his top-end speed, he’s a good example of a prospect who has enough tools to overcome any potential limitations.”

After addressing the cornerback position, Yates has the Dolphins taking Arizona guard Jonah Savaiinaea in the Second Round (No. 48 overall).

According to Yates, “This would address a glaring issue at guard. Savaiinaea played both tackle spots and guard in college, and he showed an excellent combination of size (6-foot-4, 324 pounds) and quick feet.”

Though the Dolphins signed veteran James Daniels in free agency, they still need additional bodies on the offensive line. They can’t roll out there with Liam Eichenberg in the starting lineup again.

Landing Johnson and Savaiinaea would be a home run start for Miami, but the team would still have holes at defensive line and safety. Unfortunately, this is the situation the Dolphins have found themselves in.
