Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald dropped a report on Thursday that seemingly gives some insight into the Miami Dolphins’ current plan to round out some parts of their roster.

Allegedly, Miami hasn’t reached out to four unnamed top free agents who are still on the market at positions of need.

From Jackson’s perspective, the fact that the Dolphins haven’t called about those players suggests that the team is waiting to see who it can pick up in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Jackson didn’t lay out explicitly what those positions are but seemingly hinted at some of them in another post on X.

The 2025 NFL Draft is right around the corner, as it starts up on April 24 and will span through April 26. Fortunately for the Dolphins, they are going to have quite a few picks in the draft as long as nothing comes up (like a trade).

Miami has selections in every one of the first five rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft, and its highest pick of the draft is at No. 13 overall. The Dolphins landed the pick in question after they finished the 2024 season with a record of 8-9 and failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time under head coach Mike McDaniel. Miami is scheduled to make 10 picks in total in the draft.

The franchise hasn’t drafted as early as No. 13 in the first round since the team selected wide receiver Jaylen Waddle with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Waddle has been one of Miami’s top offensive players for a long time now, and he’s racked up 1,000-plus receiving yards in three of his four seasons in the NFL.

Hopefully, Miami can draft a similarly impactful player with its first-round pick in this month’s draft. If the Dolphins can address the holes on their roster in the 2025 NFL Draft and avoid having to give free agents lucrative contracts, general manager Chris Grier should be praised for that.

But it remains to be seen who the Dolphins will choose in the draft, and free agency may end up being a necessary route for the team to address the positions in question.
