After the New York Giants released quarterback Daniel Jones, there had been plenty of calls for the Dallas Cowboys to sign the $160 million signal-caller. With America’s Team losing Dak Prescott to injury and choosing Cooper Rush to replace him, many believed Jones would still be an upgrade despite his struggles this 2024 season.
Several top NFL reporters even supported the idea, noting that the Cowboys bringing in Jones and playing him when they face the Giants in Week 13 for Thanksgiving would make for an epic showdown.
Unfortunately for fans, it doesn’t look like the Cowboys have any interest in signing Jones.
NFL insider Josina Anderson reported earlier that Dallas has no desire to pursue the 27-year-old QB at the moment. Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones then confirmed that report, revealing to San Antonio’s Sports Star that they are sticking with Rush to be their QB1.
“No, I think we’re in good shape at our quarterback spot,” Jones said about the potential signing of the former first-round pick, as transcribed by Jon Machota of The Athletic.
“We think Cooper (Rush) gives us the best chance to win right now. And certainly we still want to see some. We’ll kind of see how the season goes here. We still really want to see (Trey) Lance and like what he brings to the table. And then, of course, long term, we all know we made our commitment to Dak (Prescott) for the long term.”
The Cowboys have lost their last five games, with Cooper Rush unable to really help stabilize the team and turn things around since taking over in Week 10. That being said, it’s not a surprise why fans want a change.
Clearly, though, the Cowboys have no plans to change anything at this point of the season.
