When the Boston Red Sox signed Walker Buehler to a contract in the offseason, there were some concerns that he’d be the arm he once was.
Fortunately for both sides, there’s a mutual option during the 2025 and 2026 offseason. Still, in the short term, the Red Sox need him to be much better than he’s been.
The right-hander has been brutal to start his Boston career, posting an 8.68 ERA in just 9.1 innings pitched.
If this continues, the Red Sox will have to make a trade at the deadline for some help on the mound. With a loaded prospect system, they have enough ammo to make a trade for any player in baseball.
Among the options they could pursue is Freddy Peralta, who Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report believes could be dealt in the coming months.

“And should the Brew Crew fall hopelessly out of contention, trading away Peralta could be one heck of a way for them to expedite a rebuild that they have somehow been postponing for a few years now,” Miller wrote.
“Peralta is making just $8M this season with an $8M club option for 2026, which is a preposterously low price point for one of the three pitchers (along with Zack Wheeler and Dylan Cease) who has recorded at least 200 strikeouts in each of the past two seasons.”
If Peralta is available, the Milwaukee Brewers will likely seek a decent prospect haul.
The Red Sox are realistically one of the teams around Major League Baseball that could give them exactly what they’re looking for, making this a logical trade for both sides.
