The Red Sox acquired 19-year-old outfield prospect Yophery Rodriguez from the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday in exchange for right-handed starter Quinn Priester.

Boston also received a Competitive Balance Round A pick (33rd overall) in the 2025 Draft and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

MLB Pipeline had Rodriguez ranked Milwaukee’s No. 7 prospect. Baseball America ranked him No. 14 in the Brewers system.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder signed with Milwaukee out of the Dominican Republic on Jan. 15, 2023, for $1.5 million.

He went 5-for-12 with a triple, double, three runs, one walk and three strikeouts in three games for High—A Wisconsin this season.

As an 18-year-old all of last season, he batted .250 with a .343 on-base percentage, .383 slugging percentage, .726 OPS, seven homers, 23 doubles, six triples, 59 runs, 60 RBIs, 59 walks and 115 strikeouts (484 plate appearances) for Low-A Carolina.

He has made 138 starts in center field in the minors, eight starts in right field and five starts in left field.

His MLB Pipeline scouting report notes, “One of his standout traits in 2024 was his ability to focus on pitches in the zone, thus limiting chase and producing a healthy walk rate especially for someone with his limited experience. His power should be average as he catches up to more age-level competition, but the Brewers are working to add a little verticality to his swing to produce more line drives and fly balls that will allow the power to play more.”

His Baseball America scouting report notes, “Rodriguez doesn’t have one spectacular tool, but he does a lot of things well. He’s a good fastball hitter with a smooth lefthanded swing and his plate discipline is solid for his age, though he ran into trouble with more swing-and-miss against offspeed stuff. Rodriguez makes quality contact and shows flashes of what could be future average or better power. Rodriguez has good defensive instincts—especially on balls hit over his head—and an average arm, but he’s a solid-average runner so he doesn’t have prototypical center field speed. He projects to be a fringe-average defender in center field but more likely ends up in right field, where he should be an average to above defender.”

MLB Pipeline grades the left-handed hitter’s hit and run tools at 55 (above average) on the 20-80 grading scale. It grades his power, arm and fielding 50 (average).

BA grades his run tool 55 and everything else 50.

Rodriguez’ scouting report from one major league team’s data base:

Tooled-out corner outfielder with plus arm strength and average speed. Contact-oriented lefthanded hitter who uses both sides of the field with gap pop and signs of fence-type projected offense. Currently possesses raw power. Plate discipline is a plus for a 19-year-old kid, near fully developed physically with experience and outfield consistency, has room to improve. Works hard, hits elite velocity.
