WATCH: Steelers Fans Fighting Goes Viral at Pat McAfee’s Pittsburgh Event
On Wednesday, Pat McAfee hosted his “Big Night ‘Aht” event in Pittsburgh, welcoming the city’s stars to what amounted to a three-hour party.
It was a night for a smaller market to be in the spotlight, and the good people of Pennsylvania sold out the PPG Paints Arena.
The event largely went without controversy – perhaps a surprise given the headlines McAfee has caused on midday ESPN – except for a brawl that was out of the host’s control.
A video of presumed Pittsburgh Steelers fans fighting went viral as punches were thrown and security was eventually tasked with clearing out the mess. They did so successfully, with no arrests being made.
“Building security and Pittsburgh police responded and escorted those involved out of the building. There were no arrests,” said Cara Cruz, Pittsburgh police spokeswoman, via TribLive.
For those out of range of the fisticuffs, much of the night was devoted to Pittsburgh’s own. Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was a featured guest, along with Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes and legendary Pittsburgh Penguins Sydney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang. They contributed to a game that helped raise $2.4 million in giveaways to lucky fans.
“I haven’t even been here a year and this is an awesome city, I haven’t played everywhere in the league, I haven’t gone to every park, but the fans here, the park, the city, the character is like none other,” Skenes said during the event.
Perhaps it was the disappointment of quarterback Aaron Rodgers not making a surprise appearance – and signing – at his friend’s show. Maybe there was residual anger for Pirates icon Andrew McCutchen not getting an invite. It isn’t clear what caused the scrap, arguably the most memorable moment of the night, but Pittsburgh can rest assured that its cast of stars is all-in on the Steel City.
