Dodgers-Rays Trade Pitch Sends MLB All-Star to Los Angeles to Fill Key Need

Despite a fairly impressive start to the 2025 season, where most teams would be ecstatic with a 10-4 start, the Los Angeles Dodgers are among the select MLB teams always looking to improve.

Assuming Tommy Edman transitions to center field primarily due to Andy Pages struggling to start the season, the Dodgers would have a large hole at second base. They could call up Korean product Hyeseong Kim from Triple-A Oklahoma City, or make a blockbuster trade for a former All-Star.

Bleacher Report indicated a “clear need” for MLB teams before the trade deadline; for Los Angeles, it’s a second baseman. If Edman is unable to play second base consistently, the position will be defensively void, and the plate production will be below-average.

In a recent trade pitch by Athlon Sports, the Dodgers would receive second baseman Brandon Lowe from the Tampa Bay Rays in return for pitching prospect River Ryan and prospect Kellon Lindsey.

Lowe was an All-Star in 2019 and finished that season with 17 home runs and a .850 OPS. It’s a bit surprising he wasn’t also selected in 2021, which was clearly his best season as a pro, recording 39 home runs and 31 doubles.

Lowe may be a bit out of his offensive prime, but he still posts quality offensive marks for a second baseman. In both 2023 and 2024, Lowe hit 21 home runs. He has played over 100 games every season and recorded 20+ long balls.

This is a trade idea that would certainly clear up the Dodgers’ needs. Lowe is a free agent after 2025, so it serves as a short-term trade.
