The Los Angeles Dodgers pulled off one of the better trades in recent team memory when they acquired Tommy Edman from the St. Louis Cardinals in late July last season.
All he has done since then is play every day for Los Angeles, capture a 2024 NLCS MVP trophy after a heroic effort against the New York Mets, and get off to the best start of his career in 2025. Edman has six home runs, which is tied with Mike Trout, Aaron Judge, and Kyle Schwarber for the MLB lead.
Edman had a hilarious reaction when asked how it felt to be in conversation with those sluggers:
“Yeah, it’s kind of a lot of guys that look the same and then there’s me. It’s kind of funny, but it’s kind of a hot start, and we’ll see how long I can keep it up.”

Against the Chicago Cubs on Friday night, Edman smashed a go-ahead three-run home run to give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead, the score they would go on to win by.
Edman’s career high in home runs is 13, a mark he reached twice with the Cardinals, but he is on pace to smash that career-high as he has six in just 15 games.
The 29-year-old switch-hitter utilityman Edman is proving that size doesn’t necessarily matter to be successful in MLB, especially regarding power. Edman is just 5’10 and 180 pounds, whereas the other home run leaders all amass six feet.
Will Edman end up leading Major League Baseball in home runs? Unlikely, but his hot start to the 2025 season is a major factor in why the Dodgers are 11-4 and remain unbeaten at home.
