Lacy was accused of speeding and driving recklessly, which caused the death of a 78-year-old man.
Authorities announced on Sunday evening that the former LSU Tigers star, who had more than 50 catches and 800 yards in his final year in Baton Rouge, died by suicide.

Lacy, who grew up in Louisiana, apparently died in an apparent suicide in his car while being pursued by authorities, according to a Harrison County sheriff’s report released Sunday.
Harrison County police officers were reportedly in pursuit of Lacy on Saturday evening. Their pursuit ended when Lacy crashed. When officers approached Lacy in his vehicle, he allegedly shot and killed himself.
Lacy was pronounced dead on the scene.
“We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU football student-athlete Kyren Lacy,” LSU said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing.”
Lacy’s father, Kenny Lacy, released a statement.
“Our lives have changed forever and this will never be ok, but God needed my baby more than he was needed here,” Kenny Lacy wrote on Facebook. “This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through.”
Our thoughts are with Kyren’s friends and family members during this difficult time.
May he rest in peace.
