Former Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle Tyron Smith will reportedly sign an honorary one-day contract with the franchise before bringing the curtain down on his career.
Smith, a five-time All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowler, spent 13 of his 14 seasons in the NFL as a Cowboy before enjoying a brief year with the New York Jets.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the 34-year-old is now poised to retire from football after serving his one-day deal.
His retirement ceremony is set to take place on Wednesday April 16, with the Cowboys announcing they are holding a press conference at 2pm CT (3pm ET) to address his future.
Smith proved integral on the left side of Dallas’ offensive line for well over a decade after being selected out of USC with the ninth overall pick at the 2011 NFL Draft.
He then featured 10 times in a disappointing final season with the Jets, who failed to make it into the postseason after going 5-12.

In recent years injuries took their toll on an ageing Smith, nevertheless, meaning he missed 44 games over the past five seasons and failed to play a full slate since 2015.
As well as earning multiple All-Pro and Pro-Bowl selections, he made it into the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2010s.
Smith is the second legendary Cowboys offensive lineman to retire this offseason, with Zack Martin also hanging up his cleats after 11 years in Dallas.
Both players are leading contenders to make it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in five years’ time, as well as the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor.
