Chris Grier knows he isn’t the most popular person among Miami Dolphins fans. But the Dolphins general manager says that won’t change the way he runs the team.

“We went to the playoffs two years and people liked some of the stuff we did, and then last year, we struggled early and couldn’t get out of it and now everybody wants us all fired,” Grier said. “So you understand what’s going on; you feel the pressure but you don’t let it drive you. You do your job to the best of your ability and work with guys, and you have to work under pressure. So for me, it’s just doing the best job we can and making good, smart decisions for the Miami Dolphins.”

Grier, 55, joined the Dolphins as a scout in 2000 and climbed through the team’s front office before taking over as general manager in 2016. While Miami has made the postseason three times in his nine seasons at the helm, the team is still looking for its first playoff win in over two decades.

While Grier says he “doesn’t read anything” written about him, he got a not-so-subtle message from a fan delivered straight to his office.

“I get this package that comes, so I open it and it’s the nicest letter. It’s like, ‘Chris, hey, keep doing what you’re doing. Wishing you guys all the best, you and Mike, a long-time fan.’ And then I pull out the – there’s a shirt in it, and I’m like, ‘oh,’ I open it up and it says ‘don’t ‘f’ this up,’” Grier said.

That shirt now hangs in his office, according to Grier.

The Dolphins own 10 selections in the 2025 NFL draft, beginning with the No. 13 overall selection. And the team can’t afford many misses with several roster holes to fill and not much room for error. In a January statement, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross wrote that “continuity in leadership is not to be confused with an acceptance that status quo is good enough.”

“I feel pressure every year to win,” Grier said Tuesday. “If you don’t have pressure and want to win each year, then we’re in the wrong business. We know what it is.”
