It was a disappointing season for the Miami Dolphins, as they had just an 8-9 record, while starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was limited to just 11 games after suffering his fourth documented concussion
The front office has followed that up with a relatively quiet offseason, with their biggest free agent contract going to offensive lineman James Daniels on a three-year, $24 million deal.
However, they do hold 10 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, set to take place April 24-26, and have the chance to give the roster some much-needed improvement and get back to being playoff contenders.
In a mock draft done by NFL.com, Chad Reuter predicts that one of the Dolphins’ selections will be Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel, whose 155 passing touchdowns are tied for the most in FBS history, with the No. 135 pick.
Of course, Tagovailoa is the clear-cut starter for the Dolphins, as he still has at least four seasons left with the team under contract, as a part of his four-year, $212.4 million extension signed in July 2024.
The only other quarterback on the roster, though, is Zach Wilson, who in 34 career games has completed 566-of-993 passes for 6,293 yards, 23 touchdowns, 25 interceptions and a 73.2 passer rating.
That means Gabriel, who in 2024 completed 326-of-447 passes for 3,857 yards, 30 touchdowns, six interceptions and a 164.9 passing efficiency rating, could immediately come in and compete as Tagovailoa’s backup.
However, this scenario would be seen as a reach for the Dolphins, as ESPN’s big board ranks Gabriel as the No. 205 player available in the draft.
