Red Sox win in 10th, drop White Sox to 0-8 on road

Triston Casas hit an RBI single that allowed Alex Bregman to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Boston Red Sox extended their winning streak to four games by beating the visiting Chicago White Sox 4-3 Saturday.

Cases singled off Chicago reliever Mike Vasil (0-1) with one out and the bases loaded.

Rafael Devers hit a three-run home run for the Red Sox, who received six scoreless innings from starting pitcher Garrett Crochet. Garrett Whitlock (1-0) earned the win for pitching a scoreless 10th. He struck out two.

Chicago received a two-run home run from Luis Robert Jr. It was his second homer of the season.

Crochet gave up four hits, walked two and struck out seven. He threw 96 pitches and lowered his ERA to 1.13.

Chase Meidroth had three of Chicago’s seven hits. Meidroth is one of four players the White Sox acquired when they traded Crochet to Boston last winter. Chicago also received two hits from Edgar Quero, who was stranded on base after leading off the ninth with a double.

The loss extended Chicago’s losing streak to six games. The White Sox are 0-8 on the road.

The game was scoreless until Devers homered against Chicago starter Shane Smith in the bottom of the fifth. It was his second home run this season.

Smith allowed three runs on four hits in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out three, walked one and hit three batters.

Ceddanne Rafaela doubled and Jarren Duran singled before Devers homered in the fifth. The White Sox tied the game in the seventh. After a Meidroth single drove in Joshua Palacios from third, Robert hit a two-run home run against Greg Weissert to make it a 3-3 game.

With one out and Bregman on second in the 10th, Vasil intentionally walked Wilyer Abreu and then walked Kristian Campbell before Casas singled.
