BREAKING: Red Sox Predicted to Cut Ties With Top Prospect in Surprising Move

The Boston Red Sox entered this season with more expectations than they’ve had over the past few years. The Red Sox struggled to start the campaign, but have turned it around over the past few days.

Boston currently sits at 14-11 and is 7-3 over its last 10 games. The Red Sox are now just 0.5 games behind the first-place New York Yankees in the AL East, and look poised to make noise as they head into the long season.

With the Red Sox playing better, there could be a scenario where trading some of their top prospects makes sense. If this team wants to compete for a World Series, and a star becomes available, even someone like Marcelo Mayer could potentially be available.

While it doesn’t seem likely, David Schoenfield of ESPN predicted that Boston would move on from him this summer, adding that he could help the Red Sox land any player they want.

“Frankly, they should be able to outbid any other team, especially since the Marlins are starving for hitters.

“Roman Anthony is a nonstarter, but maybe Mayer? Trevor Story is still under contract for two more years after all,” he wrote. “With Mayer, the Marlins could shift Xavier Edwards to second base. If not Mayer, Arias and Cespedes are high-upside young infielders in Single-A ball. (Arias is off to a terrific start.)”

Moving Mayer would require the Red Sox to land a young star with multiple years of control, as there wouldn’t be much of a reason to part with him.

He’s been excellent during his professional career, hitting .272 with 42 home runs in 1,132 at-bats. One of the top prospects in Major League Baseball, the Red Sox have to be smart in any deal they make involving him.
