The Dallas Cowboys have undergone significant change this offseason both on and off the field with Brian Schottenheimer and his new staff hitting the ground running at The Star.

As far as the on-field changes, the quarterback room will look a little different in 2025 with Dak Prescott, Will Grier and Joe Milton making up the room with Trey Lance and Cooper Rush out.

Milton’s big trait is his cannon of an arm, which was on display in his Week 18 game against the Buffalo Bills and has fans excited about the gunslinger’s potential.

And for new quarterbacks coach Steve Shimko, who takes over from Scott Tolzien, he’s got nothing but positive things to say about Joe in his early meetings with him.

“That dude could throw it a mile,” Shimko said. “It’s been awesome, he’s been great between Dak, him, Will [Grier] really good room. I love it because Joe’s young, he was a rookie last year, so the questions he asked Dak are awesome, he’s eager to learn, and we all know Dak, he’s the greatest. So he’s eager to teach, he wants to spread his knowledge as well.

“So it’s been cool just watching the dynamic.”

When the trade was made, some thought it was a move to put pressure on Dak, but if a game were played today, it would be Grier who would start in Prescott’s place.

But Milton has potential, and while he’s rough around the edges, it is clear that Shimko is excited to see how he progresses under his watchful eye in 2025.

“They [Patriots] did a great job over there with him, the progression of preseason [game] one, two, three to the Bills game,” Shimko added. “Just steady, and which made us excited because it’s not just coaches, it is Joe as well. He’s eager to learn, he’s hungry to get better, he wants to be great, so it’s cool to see him just take the coaching and go to take it to that next level each game.”

The Cowboys quarterback room appears to be in good shape heading into the offseason, and Joe’s willingness to learn, he might just have a better time of it in Dallas than his predecessor, Trey Lance did.
