Quinn Ewers’ 2025 NFL Draft experience wasn’t what many would’ve once projected. The former Texas Longhorns quarterback didn’t get to walk across the stage in Green Bay. He didn’t get to shake league commissioner Roger Goodell’s hand and hug him. But the newest Miami Dolphins passer landed in a situation where he can succeed.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier spoke to the media Saturday after taking Ewers with a seventh-round choice.

“That is beneficial because you can evaluate a lot of nuances that you typically have to forecast,” McDaniel said. “I think one of the things that gives him an advantage as a rookie, just getting started, is that overlap. I think the way that he orchestrates the offense from the motion timing and really anticipating things, there’s a fit there.”

Grier detailed how Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian helped convince Miami to invest a pick in Ewers, who led Texas to consecutive College Football Playoff semifinals.

“We’ve talked to Coach Sarkisian about him and, you know, Sark really likes and was high and was talking about him playing through the injuries this year, which affected his play a little bit,” Grier said. “But, talked about his toughness, his mental toughness, of pushing through with the injury, the expectations, all the pressure, you know, with (Arch) Manning there coming in. He loved his competitiveness and how he plays and how his teammates respond to him.

“He was someone that we always had an eye on looking at, and the opportunity at that point in the draft, it just made sense for us.”

Quinn Ewers enters a Dolphins signal-caller room that includes incumbent starter Tua Tagovailoa and former New York Jets first-round pick Zach Wilson.
