Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick’s relationship with Jordon Hudson started as an odd yet innocent partnership. There is a distinct age gap between the two, but their affairs were mostly kept private.
That has all changed since he accepted the head coaching position at the University of North Carolina. Their relationship now has a dual nature, both personal and now professional with Hudson’s involvement around the football program.
However, the relationship has now hit some controversy following Belichick’s interview with CBS Sunday Morning. The piece was supposedly focused on his book tour, a fact argued both by CBS and Belichick’s camp.
During the conversation, Hudson interrupted a question regarding their relationship. Several reports since the incident detail Hudson observing similar behaviors throughout the interview, even leaving the room at one point.
This comes on the heels of Hudson reportedly nixing a season of “Hard Knocks” that was set to cover the Tar Heels this summer. Belichick was believed to be in favor of the show.
Of course, matters like these have the potential to get worse when certain faces in the media space turn their eyes to them. In this case, that would be Stephen A. Smith and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo on ESPN’s First Take.
This week, the two shared on-camera rants about the situation. In response, analyst and former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ryan Clark removed himself from the conversation.
“That’s where RC exit out the stage,” he said before leaving the scene.
Clark could have a number of justified reasons for not wanting to touch on the matter, the first being its awkward and uncomfortable nature. Hey may also recall his time spent with Belichick on “Inside the NFL” and not want to discuss the personal life of a former colleague.
Like Clark, there are others who want to avoid this glaringly uncomfortable subject. Nonetheless, Belichick’s relationship will likely remain a talking point around the start of his tenure at North Carolina.
