Fans and insiders are wondering how much longer Novak Djokovic’s career will last. The Serbian legend is the last member of the ‘Fab Four’ still active on the professional tour and the idea of retirement has not emerged in his mind for the moment, but there is no doubt that some signs of decline are evident at almost 38 years old.

The champion from Belgrade has not lifted a Grand Slam trophy for a year and a half, suffered several shocking defeats both last year and in the first part of the 2025 season and is definitely far from the top positions of the ATP rankings.

If he hadn’t won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics last summer – achieving the last great feat of his career – his last year and a half could be described as a failure for a player of his caliber.

Despite the struggles and speculation from the outside, the 24-time Grand Slam champion continues to believe in his means and will try to shock the whole world for the umpteenth time at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Djokovic doesn’t want to stop

The 37-year-old from Belgrade has repeatedly repeated that he will continue to play as long as he feels competitive at the highest level and wants to train every single day.

In an interview with ‘L’Equipe’, Thierry Guibert – CEO of Lacoste (Nole’s main sponsor for several years) – revealed how much longer the Serbian veteran’s career will last: “Novak would like to continue playing at least until the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. We are discussing the renewal right now and I have no doubt that we will find a convenient agreement for both parties within a few weeks.

Since this collaboration began, he has won half of his Grand Slam titles with us. He has made a significant contribution to the development of the brand in recent years.”

The former world number 1 is not among the protagonists of the Rome Masters 1000 and it is not clear if he will play another tournament before Roland Garros. Nole took a break after the untimely loss in Madrid.
