Much of the conversation surrounding Taylor Swift this week centered on her absence from the Met Gala, the iconic fashion event held Monday evening in New York City.
Swift hasn’t attended the gala since 2016, and her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, has never made an appearance. Given that Kelce is currently in the NFL offseason and Swift has completed her “Eras Tour” with no new music released in 2025 so far, speculation was high that the couple might make a surprise appearance.
However, the two remained out of the spotlight, continuing their low public profile after dominating headlines throughout 2024 and into early 2025, particularly during Kelce’s playoff and Super Bowl run.
Despite staying out of the public eye, Swift is still making waves with her music. On Thursday, it was announced that her album “The Tortured Poets Department” has officially surpassed Madonna’s “Music” in global sales. Swift’s album has reached 14.07 million copies sold, edging past “Music,” which has sold 14.05 million, making Tortured Poets the 88th best-selling female album of all time. It also marks Swift’s ninth album to appear on the all-time best-sellers list.
Swift continues to dominate the charts, seemingly reaching a new milestone or accomplishment every day. Her global fame was on full display during the Eras Tour, which has been a major driver of her recent success.
According to “Taylor Swift Charts,” she holds multiple all-time records, including the highest-grossing tour ever, the first tour to surpass $1 billion in a single year, the only tour to reach $2 billion, the most tickets sold by a solo artist on one tour, and the highest average attendance per show.

It remains unclear exactly when Swift plans to release new music, and according to reports, she and Kelce are simply enjoying some time away for now.
“They have been traveling nonstop and very much enjoy it,” according to PEOPLE “They’re making the most of their time off together. They are hanging out with friends, too. It’s a special time for them.”
