Kelce needs to be a better version of himself than in 2024

Despite the Kansas City Chiefs making it to the Super Bowl last season, where they were crushed 40-22 by the Philadelphia Eagles, one of the team’s key players who didn’t have the kind of season we’re used to seeing was, without a doubt, Travis Kelce.
During the season, Kelce had 97 receptions for 823 yards and 3 touchdowns. The truth is, those stats are modest for a player of his caliber. However, he still set some records that will be hard for any other player to break.
Although there was speculation that Travis Kelce might consider retirement after last season, it now seems he’ll be back. Alongside Patrick Mahomes, he shares the goal of continuing to dominate the AFC. Still, Kelce must improve, and he’s already taken the first step.
Travis Kelce is in better physical shape
The veteran Chiefs tight end told reporters today at Amazon MGM Studios that he has lost around 25 pounds this offseason to be in better physical shape for the upcoming campaign, which is believed to be his final NFL season.
This is undoubtedly great news for the Chiefs organization, as Kelce is one of the team’s most important players-and, perhaps alongside Mahomes, the face of the league’s most successful franchise in recent years.
Kelce didn’t have his best year in 2024. As mentioned above, his regular-season stats were not great, and his playoff performance didn’t shine either. Aside from the divisional round game, where he stood out with 117 yards and a touchdown, he fell short in the AFC Championship and the Super Bowl. Across those two games, he totaled just 6 receptions for 57 yards. The Chiefs clearly need a better version of Travis Kelce.
In April 2024, Kelce signed a two-year, $34.25 million extension, making him the highest-paid tight end in the league. He now has just one year left on his contract, so 2025 could very well be his last year in the NFL-making it a season to watch closely.
