The NFL schedule makers did not do Brian Schottenheimer and the Dallas Cowboys any favors to start the year. They will open up Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season on the road against the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in primetime.
That will be the first game of the 2025 season with the Eagles receiving their second Super Bowl banner before kickoff.
The Eagles have the league’s best rosters and they were 8-1 at home during the regular season in 2024. The previous Super Bowl champions have played in the opening kickoff game 20 times since 2004 and those teams are 15-5 in those games, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

It’s also worth mentioning that Dallas lost both games against Philadelphia last year with a combined score of 75-13. Dak Prescott did not play in either contest, but the Cowboys’ defense didn’t offer much resistance in either game.
This is obviously a tough matchup for the Cowboys as the Eagles might be the best team in the league again this season. Meanwhile, Dallas has a new head coach, offensive and defensive coordinator and a lot of turnover on the roster. We should expect Dallas to be a big underdog in Week 1, but the good news is that Dak Prescott will be healthy and ready to go for this Thursday Night showdown.
Prescott has a career record of 9-4 against the Eagles with a passer rating of 100.6. He usually plays well in these games and now he’s got two elite playmakers to throw to with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. With Prescott on the field, the Cowboys will always have a chance, but the real test is how their young offensive line will hold up against the pass rush of the Eagles. If the answer is well, that will be an excellent sign for the remainder of the 2025 season for Dallas.
