Jordan Poyer is taking a reflective look back on his one challenging season with the Miami Dolphins as he navigates the next chapter of his long NFL career. Last season’s obstacles came on multiple fronts. Poyer, speaking on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football,” expressed his desire to join a new team in 2025, while analyzing the difficulties faced during his time in Miami.
“Last year was an extremely tough year on so many levels,” Poyer admitted. “Our team wasn’t very good.
I didn’t play as well as I wanted to play. It was just a really tough year, obviously, transitioning from Buffalo to Miami, cultures being different, systems being different.
It just didn’t work out the way that anybody had hoped.”
On the field, Poyer’s struggles were evident. Starting all 16 games for the Dolphins in 2024, he didn’t register an interception and earned a low grading from Pro Football Focus, ranking among the lower tier of safeties. His most notable moment, unfortunately, was the roughness penalty in Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills, which allowed the Bills to secure a game-winning field goal and sunk Miami’s record to 2-6.
With his contract complete and the Dolphins choosing to refresh their secondary with younger players like Ifeatu Melifonwu, Ashtyn Davis, and rookie Dante Trader Jr., Poyer entered free agency. Now, away from the gridiron, he’s enjoying some quality time with his daughter, taking a patient approach to his next career move, yet full of gratitude.
“I’m thankful for it all,” Poyer remarked. “Thankful for all the moments, all the friendships.
And would I like to play again? Absolutely.
Whatever that looks like. It would be dope and be ideal to have a fancy ending and be able to retire a Bill.
But who knows?”
Embracing life’s current pace, Poyer shares his days with family, engaging in simple joys like biking and fishing with his daughter. “Most of these times, these days, spending time with my daughter riding bikes, fishing.
Most of these times I’d be in OTAs. So really, just taking it all in for what it is.
I’m not rushing anything, not rushing to any decision, but extremely thankful for all the moments throughout my career. And I’m just playing it by ear right now, but would I love to play?
Absolutely.”
