The Kansas City Chiefs have moved swiftly to fill the final spot on their 90-man offseason roster.
The Chiefs have signed five-year NFL veteran Tremayne Anchrum Jr. on a one-year contract, per source. This comes after the team waived RB Keaontay Ingram with an injury designation on Thursday.
A seventh-round pick out of Clemson by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2020 NFL Draft, Anchrum has appeared in 31 regular-season games with just one start. He’s mostly been a backup interior offensive lineman in the NFL, playing snaps at right guard and just three snaps at right tackle during his time with Los Angeles.
He spent time last offseason with the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints and on the practice squad with the Houston Texans during the 2024 NFL season.
Why did the Chiefs sign Tremayne Anchrum Jr.?
The Chiefs need to add some veteran depth to their offensive line. While Anchrum has played sparingly in the NFL, he has championship DNA. He is a two-time College Football Playoff National Champion with the Clemson Tigers (2016, 2019) and won Super Bowl LVI with the Rams.
At 6-foot-2 and 314 pounds, he’s probably not going to play offensive tackle in Kansas City. But he could play left guard, right guard, and even center for the Chiefs during OTAs and training camp. Right now, he should be viewed as a camp body for OTAs, mandatory minicamp, and training camp. Still, there’s little doubt that he could add some more competition at the left guard position with Kingsley Suamataia and Mike Caliendo. He brings more experience than both players and will undoubtedly be motivated to compete for a chance to start and impress.

San Jose State WR Justin Lockhart, who was signed as a UDFA ahead of rookie minicamp and waived with an injury designation just after, cleared waivers after agreeing to an injury settlement. He’s now a free agent. Chiefs RB Keaontay Ingram, who was waived with an injury designation on Thursday, went on injured reserve. He could be the next player to agree to an injury settlement.
