Watch: Rafael Devers’ first career walk-off home run lifts Red Sox to much-needed win

Red Sox fans left Fenway Park happy on Saturday night after watching Rafael Devers crush his first career walk-off home run. The 7-6 win over the Braves also furthered Boston’s journey to even its overall record and get back in the American League East race.

Before Devers stood in the batter’s box ready to be the hero of the day in the bottom of the ninth, Boston was trailing 6-2 going into the seventh inning.

The Red Sox managed to sore a pair of runs in both the seventh and eight innings to tie the game and allow Devers’ bomb to right field to be the difference-maker.

Left fielder Jarren Duran sent the tying run home with a base hit. This came after he crushed a home run to dead center field on his prior at-bat.

Duran, who could viewed as the MVP of the game despite most of the shine going to Devers, finished the game going 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI. In contrast, Devers was 3-for-4 with the home run and two RBI.

Alex Bregman drove in Boston’s only other run in the game as he continues a season that’s on pace to be one of the best of his career. Bregman, a player Red Sox fans once hated for his success with the Houston Astros, entered Saturday hitting .309 in 46 games played during his debut season in Boston.

Sunday’s game will now serve as the rubber match of the series. First pitch between the Red Sox and Braves is set for 1:35 p.m. ET.

Boston (23-24) sits four games behind the rival New York Yankees in the American League East.
