FRISCO – Dallas Cowboys fans will not have all of their wishes granted.
Wish for another Super Bowl? Well, this year they have a difficult schedule and a new coach and … well, you never know.
Wish that “America’s Team” and its biggest mouths would quiet down? Well …
No. From Jerry Jones to Micah Parsons, that is simply not the “above the fold” Cowboys way.
Coming off a 7-10 disappointment and with new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys will have to navigate a their way through a slate that is (depending on how one measures it) arguably the fifth-most-difficult in this year’s NFL.
Included is a tough stretch beginning before Thanksgiving that will be historically challenging.
From Weeks 12-17, they will play the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Chargers and Washington Commanders — all teams that won at least 11 games last season. The Cowboys will therefore be the first team in NFL history to play six consecutive games against teams that all won 11+ games the previous season.
When ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter posted the tidbit to his social media, none other than Cowboys’ All-Pro edge rusher Parsons responded.
Wrote Parsons on the daunting schedule: “(Bleep) em! Let’s play ball!”
Does Cowboys Nation find that 5-word battle cry to be inspirational?
Not across the board, no.
Many Cowboys fans reacted to Parsons’ comment with some level of exasperation in acknowledgment of the fact that Micah has never met a subject he didn’t want to tweet about.
“Micah slowly becoming all talk no walk,” wrote on commentor.
Added another, “Prove it! Take over a game or two and dominate. Enough talk.”
“No more podcasts you gotta lock in bro,” said one.
And one commentor said, “Genuinely asking man, where do you find the confidence and lack of shame to continue talking like this when you’ve been opening your mouth since entering the league and have yet to back it up with results?”
Factually, Micah has proven plenty. Last season, he made history by totaling double-digit sacks (12) for the fourth consecutive season to begin a career. Only Hall-of-Famers Dwight Freeney, Derrick Thomas and Reggie White have accomplished such feat.
As he preps for a massive new contract that we bet will be worth around $40 million APY, the arrow is pointing up in terms of on-field production. Oh, and when that happens?
Parsons is likely to become even more vocal, if that’s even possible. And maybe Cowboys Nation will embrace that … if Jerry and Micah’s Cowboys are ready to end their 30-year Super Bowl drought and back up their words with some wins.
