Novak Djokovic is ready to return to action this week, having realized that he has to play more matches on the red clay before Roland Garros. After choosing to skip the Rome Masters 1000 and announcing the end of his partnership with Andy Murray – which lasted just six months – the former world No.1 has been given a wild card by Geneva ATP 250 organizers and will make his debut against Hungarian veteran Marton Fucsovics tomorrow.
The Serbian legend’s results in the first part of the 2025 season were not satisfactory, considering that he only showed flashes of his best tennis at the Australian Open (where he reached the semifinals) and the Miami Open (where he was defeated by Mensik when he was one step away from the 100th title of his legendary career).
The 24-time Grand Slam champion hoped that the final reached in Florida would give him confidence even in the first tournaments on red clay, instead his level has drastically dropped and he has unleashed two horrible performances in Monte Carlo (against Tabilo) and in Madrid (against Arnaldi).
After the separation from Murray – who had started following him as a coach since the beginning of this year – everyone is wondering who will accompany Djokovic in this very delicate phase of the season, in which there are Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
Nole helps Serbian children
Meanwhile, Nole has officially opened a new tennis court in Belgrade in order to allow children who need it to cultivate their passion for sport.
“My main wish is that Serbian children are happy and can feel free through sport. There is no greater satisfaction than watching them play tennis,” said the Serbian champion, as reported by the official ATP website.
The former world number 1 practiced in Belgrade before arriving in Geneva, where he had also played in 2024, losing to Machac.
Novak will not be among the top favorites in Paris this time and will have to use the first week to find the right automatisms.
