On Sunday afternoon the Kansas City Chiefs took down the Carolina Panthers thanks to a last-second field goal from Harrison Butker replacement Spencer Shrader, who hit a 31-yard field goal for a 30-27 win.
With the win, Kansas City improved to 10-1 on the season and still holds the No. 1 seed in the AFC over the Buffalo Bills, who beat the Chiefs 30-21 the previous week. The three-point win over the Panthers was the team’s eighth one-score victory of the season – out of eight tries.
Following the latest win, Chiefs defensive backs coach David Merritt revealed he received a special treat from a very famous fan.
“Taylor Swift baked homemade victory Pop Tarts for me!” Merritt touted on social media. His wife, Yolonda, took him down a few notches by revealing Swift has been baking special treats for different players and coaches all season long.
“Yolonda Merritt said, ‘She’s done it all season for different people Dave,’ I thought I was SPECIAL Sweet young woman regardless!” he joked.
Merritt has been an assistant coach with the Chiefs for six seasons – winning three Super Bowl titles over that span. He and the Chiefs are once again the favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy for what would be the third time in a row.
With star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and a vaunted defense, Kansas City is a force to be reckoned with. The team will be back on the field on a short week as they face off against the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday afternoon.
Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET on Prime Video.
