Nothing quite represents the state of Texas like the fast-food chain Whataburger.
And star Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes hasn’t lost sight, or taste, of his Texan roots since living in the Midwest.
Mahomes’ lengthy investment portfolio – that notably includes many KC-area sports teams – also stretches into the food industry with his part-ownership in the franchisee KMO Burger who, of course, owns a few Texas-based Whataburger locations.
Mahomes, a native of Whitehouse in east Texas and Texas Tech alumnus, will now see his two worlds collide after an announcement that KMO Burger will expand their operation to own multiple Whataburger franchises in the Kansas City and Springfield, Missouri areas.
KMO Burger already operates one Whataburger location in Kansas City, which opened in 2022 and includes a Mahomes jersey and plaque hung in the opening walkway. The expansion for 16 more restaurants is an effort to strengthen the brand’s presence in the area.
And with Mahomes’ backing, we imagine it will see plenty of success.
“The brand means a lot to me—not just for the food, but for how it brings people together. Our team at KMO Burger is ready to keep raising the bar,” Mahomes said in a press release. “I’m proud to be part of a team that’s focused on both growth and community.”
This new joint venture will play a major role in continuing the Corpus Christi-founded restaurant’s national expansion. Whataburger has over 1,100 locations across 16 states.
“This partnership reflects the strength of our franchise model and the incredible trust we place in our partners,” Whataburger CEO Debbie Stroud said. “KMO Burger, LLC has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the communities they serve and to the heart of the Whataburger experience—amazing food, exceptional service, and a welcoming atmosphere.”
Chiefs fans now have their new favorite tailgate spot, as their superstar quarterback says “it’s great to bring a gift from [his] first home to [his] second home.”
