Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is locked in on getting his team back to the Super Bowl and finishing the job after a tough 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in February. Though he has three Super Bowl titles to his name, falling short of becoming the first team to win three straight championships undoubtedly stings.
The 29-year-old is looking to build on a season where he threw for 3,928 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. With OTAs and mandatory minicamp coming soon, Mahomes has been training and staying sharp in the offseason.
Meanwhile, on Friday, he tuned in to Texas Tech’s softball team as they faced Florida State for a spot in the Women’s College World Series (WCWS). Mahomes played for Texas Tech’s football team three seasons from 2014-16, so he was cheering on his alma mater.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders swept the best-of-three series with a 2-1 victory on Friday, and Mahomes took to social media afterward.
“LETS GOOOO!!!!!!! @TexasTechSB,” he wrote.
Within 20 minutes of Mahomes’ post, ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe saw it and sent an open invitation for the Chiefs quarterback to join her and the Red Raiders in Oklahoma City for the WCWS.
“We would love to have you in OKC!!! Easy trip from Kcity☺️,” Rowe posted.
Rowe’s got a point — the drive from Kansas City to Oklahoma City isn’t too bad. It’s close to five hours, but if Mahomes decides to make the trip, he will probably travel by air.
It’s still unclear when Texas Tech will play their first game at the WCWS, but the games begin on May 29 and run through June 6.
