The Boston Red Sox have seen the benefits of having Alex Bregman on the roster. Bregman, one of the top third basemen in Major League Baseball, has been excellent for Boston.
However, with him having the chance to hit free agency, given he has an opt-out in his contract, things could get interesting for the Red Sox. If the Red Sox don’t want to give him the money he’s looking for if he opts out, there could be a scenario where he ends up in the division.
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, that team might be the New York Yankees.
“Bregman, who is making $40 million this year and signed for two more years at that rate, will likely opt out of his deal. His free-agent market should be even more robust than last offseason with the Red Sox joined by the Yankees, Tigers, Astros, Phillies and even the Dodgers; he would be an upgrade for all of them at the hot corner,” he wrote.

The Yankees have long been interested in adding a third baseman, with many rumors suggesting that they’ll add one at the deadline.
If Bregman is available next winter, it’d make sense for them to be interested this time around.
Hitting .297 with 11 home runs, Bregman will get paid. With his power numbers being where they are and only being 31 years old, the New Mexico native should have a good opportunity to have a much better year on the free agency market this time around.
It was strange why it didn’t go as planned last time, but the Red Sox benefited from giving him the deal he was looking for.
