Rumors about the Dallas Cowboys cornerback room continue to intensify amid trade speculation that stems from multiple factors.

The major worry is health. Dallas was banged up all over the place last year, but no group dealt with more injuries than the secondary. At OTAs, things still look this way, so the team could be in the market for a fresh body via trade or free agency.

Former All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs headlines the group after he went through another major knee surgery and is not expected to return until the midway point of the season at best.

These Diggs injury woes couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Cowboys. After a phenomenal start to his career, the former second-round pick was extended on a huge five-year, $97 million contract. The injuries have unfortunately not allowed him to be the same player since that signing.

The continued uncertainty around his recovery leads Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski to include Diggs in a list of potential trade packages.

Even though he is just 26 and already owns an impressive track record, the writer believes Diggs is only worth a 2026 sixth-round draft pick in a trade return.

“Both cornerback Trevon Diggs and the Dallas Cowboys may be better off without each other,” the article reads. “That may come across as counterintuitive considering how good Diggs has been when he’s healthy, but he hasn’t been healthy over the last two seasons.”

Sobleski continued: “[Diggs’] deal still has four years remaining, including the upcoming campaign. However, the Cowboys could save more than $9.6 million by trading Diggs after June 1, according to Over The Cap.”

This supposed availability for Diggs on the trade market has raised interest from another site that claims the New Orleans Saints could be suitors for the Cowboys’ star corner.

“The Saints need to add a cornerback after trading Marshon Lattimore a year ago and losing Paulson Adebo in free agency this offseason,” one writer said.

“New Orleans isn’t in a spot to swing a trade for an aging veteran like Jalen Ramsey. Somebody like Diggs, who’s 26 years old, would make a lot more sense.”

Any team would think trading Diggs for just a sixth “would make a lot of sense”. Any team other than Dallas, of course.

And speaking of that, the Cowboys have also been mentioned in the Jalen Ramsey conversation as a potential trade partner with the Miami Dolphins, but those reports have held no merit other than a speculative “anything can happen” tone.

Dallas has added reinforcements to the unit by drafting an intriguing prospect in cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. and trading for former first-round product Kaiir Elam, but something could still be in the works before training camp.

Trading Diggs would open a spot for a young player to develop, but that is a risky gamble given how rookies adjust at a premium position like cornerback and how well Diggs has proved he can perform … as long as he is healthy.

Whether Diggs in included in any rumored plans remains to be seen, but they likely hinge on how well he rehabs and how much confidence the coaching staff has in him.

If – and that’s a big if – he starts getting shopped, we assure you that Dallas won’t accept a package as light as just a sixth rounder.

Until anything actually moves, Diggs is working his tail off to return as soon as possible and hopefully become the Cowboys’ defensive backfield captain like he’s been in the past.
