The Boston Red Sox finally made it official on May 24, calling up prospect Marcelo Mayer from Triple-A.
The Alex Bregman injury served as the perfect opportunity for the Red Sox to promote one of their talented youngsters. Although top prospect Roman Anthony is still awaiting his eventual MLB debut.
Anthony had a message for his teammate and friend, Mayer, upon his Saturday promotion.

“About time. Go be you brother,” Anthony wrote on his Instagram story with a heart emoji.
The official MLB X account also shared this post, which included a photo of Mayer and Anthony together during batting practice.
At the time of his promotion, Mayer was batting .271 at Triple-A Worcester, with 9 home runs and 43 RBI. He had a slugging percentage of .471 and an OPS of .818, with 20 walks compared to 38 strikeouts.
Comparatively speaking, Anthony is currently batting .323 at Triple-A Worcester with 6 home runs and 18 RBI. He has a slugging percentage of .513 and an OPS of .968, with 40 walks compared to just 39 strikeouts.
While speaking with The Boston Globe earlier this week, Anthony discussed the fact that he has yet to be called up.
“It’s hard to not think about just because of honestly how much it’s talked about and how much of a trending topic it is in the media,” Anthony admitted candidly. “We’re asked so much — so many of us — that question. But we really don’t know.”
You can find the rest of Anthony’s comments here. It’s unclear when the Red Sox plan to promote Anthony to the major leagues.
