The Geneva ATP 250 gave Novak Djokovic the 100th title of his extraordinary career, allowing him to reach yet another milestone and write a new page in tennis history at the age of 38. The former world No. 1 had to work harder than expected to lift this symbolic trophy and did not play his best tennis this week in Switzerland either, but he returned to make the difference in the decisive moments and was the author of a sensational comeback against Hubert Hurkacz in the final.
The Serbian veteran has broken all kinds of records and deserves to be considered as the best ever, despite the fact that most fans have always loved Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal more. The 38-year-old from Belgrade tried to close any debate on the GOAT with his numbers, but personal preferences cannot be questioned in any way.
Rick Macci praises Djokovic
Through his official X profile, Rick Macci – former coach of the Williams sisters and Andy Roddick – wanted to pay tribute once again to Nole.
“When you win 100 of anything let alone tennis tournaments where you have to scalp many opponents to win the Prize this is another reason why Novak is the GOAT in my Eyes” – he wrote.
Everyone knows that Djokovic wants to win another Grand Slam title before leaving professional tennis and will try to do this feat at Roland Garros, where he has already triumphed in 2016, 2021 and 2023 respectively.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion will not be among the top favorites to win this edition and is certainly behind both Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, but it would still be a serious mistake to underestimate a legend of his caliber.
Most analysts believe that Novak has a better chance of winning his 25th Major at Wimbledon or the US Open, but the Serbian knows that he must make the most of every chance because the end of his career is not so far away.
