Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill has opened up about his mental health struggles and the steps he’s taken to address them ahead of his 10th NFL season.
One year after leading the NFL in receiving yards (1,799) and receiving touchdowns (13), Tyreek Hill endured the most disappointing season of his career in 2024. The future Hall of Famer caught 81 passes for 959 yards and six touchdowns, with the 56.4 yards he averaged per game marking Hill’s lowest since his 2016 rookie year.
But for Tyreek Hill, the events off the field made for an emotionally draining and taxing year.
On his way to Miami’s Week 1 home opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Hill was pulled over and detained by police over a traffic violation. Police bodycam footage showed Hill being taken out of his car, taken to the ground and handcuffed despite displaying zero threatening gestures or language. One of the cops involved the detainment was placed on administrative leave.
Last month, police responded to a call from Tyreek Hill’s mother-in-law regarding a domestic dispute between Hill and his wife, Keeta. No charges were filed, and Keeta filed for divorce soon after.
Per ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, Hill recently started attending church and therapy to help with his mental health struggles:
“It’s tough. Only thing I’m going to say is, man, money is a crazy thing for a lot of people. But I mean for me, we just going to let the details just handle itself, you know what I’m saying? Because at the end of the day, the truth always comes out, right? My job is just to be a great father to all of my kids and be the best player I can be and be the best leader I can be for these guys in this locker room, man. So, I’m going to stand strong on that and I’m going to stand firm on that.”

After suggesting that he wanted to be traded following Miami’s Week 18 loss (he infamously told reporters “I’m out, bro”), Hill also clarified that there’s “a better understanding of” the Dolphins’ culture that head coach Mike McDaniel is trying to build. Hill added, “Everybody’s on the same page” as he heads into his age-31 season.
Tyreek Hill & Dolphins Open Season At Indianapolis Colts
Hill and the Dolphins will look to kick off the 2025 season on a promising note when they visit Anthony Richardson and the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sept. 7. Miami has won four straight season openers since 2021, including a 20-17 win over the Jaguars last year.
