The Kansas City Chiefs made multiple roster moves on Tuesday, mainly concerning their practice squad.

According to Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com, the Chiefs added kicker Matt Wright and restored tight end Baylor Cupp from the practice squad’s injured reserve.

Additionally, Kansas City placed tight end Peyton Hendershot on injured reserve. The team also waived defensive end Cameron Thomas and released offensive tackle Lucas Niang and defensive end Truman Jones from the practice squad.

Besides Hendershot, Cupp is a player Chiefs fans might be familiar with. Cupp was an undrafted free agent signing this past offseason that did enough in training camp and preseason to earn a practice squad spot. In the preseason, Cupp had three receptions (three targets) for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Unfortunately, Cupp was placed on the Chiefs practice squad injured reserve list before their Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Even though Cupp was unlikely to see the field due to his injury, being out hurt his development.

In Cupp’s three years at Texas Tech, he only recorded 23 receptions for 246 yards and four touchdowns. That’s not a lot of experience being a weapon at tight end, which is a big part of the Chiefs’ offense.

Now that he’s returned from injury, Cupp can continue to develop. The Chiefs have recently proven they can develop tight ends; look at Noah Gray. If the staff can replicate that with Cupp, then the Chiefs could be in a good position at tight end after Travis Kelce retires.
