Social media is destroying Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph for attending President Donald Trump’s rally last week.
Donald Trump was in West Mifflin, a borough 11 miles south of Pittsburgh, for a rally on Friday. Rudolph, Steelers special teams captain Miles Killebrew and former running back Rocky Bleier attended the rally, with the latter gifting the President his own Steelers jersey.
The Steelers apparently received so many angry messages that they had to issue the following email to fans and season ticket holders, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
“We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us. As valued fans, your voice is an essential part of what makes our Steelers community and fan base so strong.
We understand that a recent rally in Pittsburgh has generated a range of reactions from our fan base. Our alumni and current players make their own individual decisions that reflect their views, and they do not necessarily represent the view of the entire Pittsburgh Steelers organization. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. We appreciate your passion and your continued support of the team.”
Predictably, Mason Rudolph’s decision to appear publicly with the polarizing President of the United States led to plenty of critical reactions on social media:
“Remember when Colin Kaepernick got blacklisted from the NFL for not posing the right way during the special song?” asked a fan.
“sad to see,” said another.
“Who are they?” asked a fan.
“Well, if he didn’t suck at quarterback, I wouldn’t know who he was. So, good job at sucking at quarterback guy who went to some thing…,” wrote a user.
“Traitors both of them,” a fan wrote.
“That’s very, very disappointing. Gross even,” added a user.
After a one-year stint with the Tennessee Titans, Rudolph returned to the Steelers on a two-year deal. He’s the No. 1 QB on the depth chart for now, though that will change if the team ends up signing Aaron Rodgers.
Mason Rudolph Hasn’t Publicly Endorsed Donald Trump, Unlike Several NFL Players

President Trump has plenty of supporters across the NFL landscape, and it’s not just the billionaire owners who’ve donated to his presidential campaigns.
Nick Bosa, Gardner Minshew II and Harrison Butker have also voiced their support for the polarizing President. NFL greats like Brett Favre, Mike Ditka, Brian Urlacher, Lawrence Taylor, Ottis Anderson and Herschel Walker have also endorsed Trump.
