The Kansas City Chiefs had an eventful Tuesday afternoon following their fifth Organized Team Activities (OTAs) practice session.
At 2:29 PM CT, FOX 4 Kansas City meteorologist Jacob Lanier confirmed reports of a Tornado on the ground over GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium at the Truman Sports Complex in the East Kansas City area. The Tornado was tracking over I-70 into the Independence, Missouri area.
The RadarScope Pro look from Lanier’s post on X below shows the Tornado directly over Arrowhead Stadium.
It’s unclear if Chiefs players had left practice facilities following team meetings at OTAs or were still at team facilities during the storm. Practice typically takes place earlier in the day, so the weather is unlikely to have disrupted the team.
Mathew Stanley posted a photo of the tornado on Facebook. It was shared on X via BBQ Sports.
The good news is that the early reports indicate nothing too destructive or dangerous. Lanier followed up with minor reports of damage near GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
A local Kansas City area storm chaser, Max Hernandez, shared some photos of downed tree branches and debris near Arrowhead & Kauffman stadiums.
The team also might have a porta-potty problem. . .
In this video taken by Quin Swartz just across the parking lot at the Kansas City Royals’ Kauffman Stadium, you can see heavy rain and debris flying around the ballpark. Thankfully, the Royals ( and the recently called-up Jac Caglianone) had a road game up I-70 in St. Louis on Tuesday.
Similar weather occurred across the parking lot at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, so Travis Hogan and the rest of the Chiefs’ grounds crew will have some work to do. It also remains to be seen if the weather had any impact or caused damage to any of the ongoing renovations to fit the pitch for the six FIFA World Cup matches that GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium will play host to in 2026.
