FRISCO – There is surely a segment of Dallas Cowboys Nation who wants to know when Micah Parsons finalizes his contract situation … and is exhausted by updates big and small beyond that.
If that’s you, you have company.
Cowboys COO Stephen Jones – the point man in the negotiations – sort of feels the same way.
Jones, in a session with the media here inside The Star on Tuesday, fielded a handful of Micah-related questions.
The questions are legitimate.
But yes, also sort of exhausting.
And so, at one point, Stephen attempted to put an end to that part of the visit.
“I’ll let you know,” Jones told us, “when it happens.”
So there.
But one key “deadline” in regard to “when it happens” ideally? Parsons is already stating his desire to have it signed, sealed, and delivered by then.
And as you’ll see below, he’s putting in on team owner Jerry Jones to get that done.
However, before that, mandatory minicamp will take place at The Star next week, and many were wondering if Micah will attend.
Well, he put that to bed with a post on X, but he might also have had a subtle little dig at owner Jerry Jones over his contract situation.
“I will be there! I haven’t missed a mini camp in 4 years! Even though the contract is not done, I have teammates and a playbook ! I’m preparing as if I will be on the field the first week of camp! But it’s in the owner’s hands. I’m ready to win a Super Bowl !”
Now, we know the love Micah has for Jerry, and there is no ill will between the pair, but Parsons stating “it’s in the owner’s hands” when it comes to his contract suggests that the contract ball is well and truly in Mr. Jones’ court.
Consider it a message.
With Micah expected to sign a new deal in the region of $40 million APY and over five years, he might be telling the football world that he’s ready to sign on the dotted line, but that Jerry isn’t.
And when will we know more?
As soon as the Joneses do something … and then “let us know” that they did it.
