The Dallas Cowboys are learning of some disturbing news on Thursday. As the team is preparing for a new era with head coach Brian Schottenheimer, one of their former stars going through some serious legal trouble.
“Leaving Marks” Cowboys Star Arrested On Family Violence Charges (Breaking)
City of Richardson police reported that Greg Hardy was arrested Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a family member:
Hardy, 36, was booked into the Richardson Jail on charges of assault causing bodily injury to a family member, and as of this writing, no bond has been set.
This allegation marks the latest in an unfortunate series of legal and behavioral issues for Hardy, a list that includes a high-profile domestic violence case in 2014 and a drug arrest in 2016.
Hardy played defensive end for the Cowboys in 2015 after signing as a free agent in a controversial move by team owner Jerry Jones given the troubling domestic violence charges he’d previously face as a Pro Bowl member of the Carolina Panthers.
After he left the Cowboys, he was arrested again in September 2016 in Richardson on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance after police allegedly found cocaine in his vehicle during a routine traffic stop.
A 2014 incident in Carolina earned him an NFL suspension after photos emerged of a girlfriend who appeared to have been attacked, with the published allegation that he “threw her onto a futon covered with assault rifles.”
A judge initially convicted Hardy of assault, but the charges were later dismissed when his accuser did not appear for a second trial.
Since leaving the NFL, Hardy has continued to reside in the DFW area and has participated as a professional boxer.
