Miami Dolphins defensive stud Bradley Chubb has been with the team for multiple seasons now, and based on some recent comments from the veteran, he feels the Dolphins lied in the past about changing their team culture for the better.
Speaking on Wednesday, Chubb implied that the Dolphins said the right things before when it came to changing their team culture but didn’t do enough to act on it.
But now, Chubb believes something has changed, with the team’s actions finally matching the words.
Chubb’s comments were about last year specifically.
“I’m going to say last year we were lying, honestly,” Chubb said. “Point blank. Period.”
He continued.
“We felt it, you know what I mean?” Chubb said. “We put our toe in the water, but we didn’t dive all the way in. We didn’t go all the way there with each other. We weren’t making the extra effort to go the extra mile.”
He said this year, the Dolphins are doing what’s necessary.
“I would say this year we’re doing that,” Chubb said. “I’m not sure how it’s going to turn out for us, but we are putting forth that foot to change it. … If it works out, it works out. If not, we’re going to get back to the drawing board.”
Dolphins general manager Chris Grier spoke on Miami’s culture earlier in the offseason and called any belief of in-house issues “wildly inaccurate.” That’s despite the fact that cornerback Jalen Ramsey is on the trading block for the Dolphins and wide receiver Tyreek Hill implied that he wanted out of Miami following the team’s Week 18 loss to the New York Jets.
A lack of toughness and maturity are among the issues that some people feel have plagued the Dolphins over the years.
Chubb was one of the more impactful defensive players that head coach Mike McDaniel had at his disposal in the 2023 season. He racked up the most sacks of any player on the Dolphins that season with 11 and also led the league in forced fumbles.
However, he went down with a torn ACL in Week 17 of that season, and as a result, he sat out the entirety of the 2024 campaign. The Dolphins felt his absence and could have benefited greatly from his knack for attacking quarterbacks.
Chubb has been in the NFL since the Denver Broncos selected him with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and he has earned two Pro Bowl selections so far in his professional career.
Since Chubb has had such a long time to recuperate from his ACL injury, hopefully he won’t show too much rust in the 2025 campaign and will pick up right where he left off in the 2023 season. The Dolphins will kick off their 2025 season with a road matchup against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sept. 7. The Colts ended the 2024 season with an 8-9 record.
